Tunnel Fireproof Board: What Really Matters When You're Buying for a Major Project
Let me be straight with you—I'm an engineer at Binzhou Lübang Board Industry. I've spent years working with tunnel fire protection, and I've seen what happens when people buy the wrong board just to save a few bucks. It's not pretty.
Today, I want to walk you through what actually matters when you're sourcing Professional fireproof tunnel boards. No jargon overload—just practical stuff that'll help you make the right call.
Here's the thing most people don't realize: tunnel fireproof boards aren't there to look pretty. Their one job is to buy time for concrete.
When a tunnel fire breaks out, temperatures can hit 1000°C+ in minutes. Concrete under that kind of heat starts spalling—basically, it pops and flakes off like a boiled egg. Once the concrete goes, the steel reinforcement loses support, and the whole structure becomes a safety risk.
The fireproof board acts like a fireproof suit for the tunnel. It buys 2 to 3 hours of critical escape and rescue time. That's the difference between a tragedy and a controlled evacuation.

I'm not going to bury you in specs. But there are three key performance indicators you absolutely need to check before signing any purchase order.
1. Fire Resistance Rating (Your Non-Negotiable)
This is the big one. For high-risk tunnels—think underwater crossings or extra-long highway tunnels—Chinese national standard GB 28376-2012 requires a fire resistance rating of at least 2.00 hours under the RABT fire curve . Different tunnel classes have different requirements, so check what applies to your project.
2. Dry Bending Strength (Staying Power)
Tunnels deal with constant wind pressure from passing traffic. If the board isn't strong enough—at least 6 MPa dry bending strength per GB 28376—it'll warp or even fall off over time . And a board dropping onto a moving vehicle? That's a whole new kind of problem.
3. Smoke Toxicity (Life or Breath)
Tunnels are enclosed spaces. If a fire breaks out, toxic smoke kills faster than flames. GB 28376 requires smoke toxicity to meet at least ZA1 grade under GB/T 20285 . That means less poisonous gas when people are trying to get out.
I've seen our boards go into all kinds of tunnels—urban underpasses, expressway tunnels, you name it.
Installation crews typically use expansion anchors to fix the boards to the tunnel ceiling and side walls. For curved tunnel roofs, we usually recommend double-layer staggered installation so there are no gaps where fire can sneak through.
And here's something a lot of people overlook: some of our boards come with decorative coatings. They don't just protect—they make the tunnel interior brighter and more pleasant for drivers. It's a small detail that makes a real difference in user experience.
Look, fireproof boards aren't rocket science to manufacture. But producing consistently good batches, batch after batch? That takes serious manufacturing discipline.
We're backed by Guochang Group, with over 60 years of building materials heritage. Our annual production capacity sits at over 20 million square meters for calcium silicate and cement flat sheets—that's scale you can count on when you're supplying a major tunnel project .
We hold ISO9001, ISO14001, and ISO45001 certifications, plus the Three-Star China Green Building Product Certification. These aren't just badges—they're proof that quality control is part of our DNA .

If you're in charge of sourcing for a tunnel project, here's my honest advice:
Don't just ask for a price quote. Ask:
"Can you show me your fire resistance test report?"
"What's your dry bending strength data?"
"Have you supplied projects of this scale before?"
A supplier who can answer those questions confidently—with documentation to back it up—is a supplier worth talking to.
We've done the work. We've passed the tests. And we're ready to help you get your tunnel protection right the first time.
